8th grade Social Studies teacher
"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." - MLK, Jr.
2018-19 will mark my 17th year as a middle school social studies teacher, my fifth here in Naugatuck. I have taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade social studies in my career in multiple school districts with diverse student populations. I have taught courses ranging from ancient civilizations (Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome), regions of the world (China, Central America, South America, and parts of Africa), and U.S. History from the American Revolution up to the present day. Through the teaching of historical content, I strive to help my students become more informed citizens who can think critically and speak intelligently about global and domestic issues that affect our progress as a nation. I aim to accomplish this while still helping to hone their reading, writing, and research skills. I value all of my students' voices and look forward to working with all of them this year!
About Mr. Prygoda
My dad was a social studies teacher and guidance counselor in New Britain schools for 35 years, so I had a lot of exposure to what it meant to be an educator while growing up. I started tutoring elementary school students for the New Britain summer school program during my high school and early college years and eventually that's what led me to major in Elementary Ed. I soon realized, however, that while I loved working with young kids, I really preferred middle schoolers and so I started my teaching career at a new (at the time) magnet school in Hartford, where I taught 6th grade social studies and coached basketball. I earned an additional certification to teach grades 7-12 a few years later and feel fortunate that this path eventually led me to Naugatuck. City Hill is a wonderful school for both teachers and students and every year I try to do my part to make it a little better for all involved!
