Kristina Marn

7th Grade Language Arts Teacher

Garnet Team

Welcome!

Welcome to 7th grade language arts! In my classroom, we will learn all about how to communicate with the rest of the world through our reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. My biggest goal as your teacher is to help awaken a love of literature in you and to teach you the skills you need to succeed in high school, college, and your future career. We are going to have a wonderful year together!

About Mrs. Marn

Ever since I was a little kid growing up in Florida, I have deeply loved to read. I have spent countless hours of my life curled up with a cup of tea and a good book. I believe in the power of literature to teach us lessons, comfort us, entertain us, and change our lives. It was because of this love of reading that I always knew I wanted to become a teacher. I wanted to help other students find the same magic in reading that I did.

I graduated from the University of Florida in 2007 with a degree in English, then obtained my educator certification from Santa Fe Community College in 2008. Soon after that, I landed my first job teaching 6th grade language arts at Seminole Middle School. I stayed there for nine years and ended up teaching a variety of grade levels. As the years passed by, my love for teaching and my skill as an educator grew. I was named teacher of the year for my school in the 2017-2018 school year and was named a Florida High Impact Teacher for three years in a row, meaning that my students' achievement scores on our state testing were in the top 5% for all teachers in the state.

In the fall of 2018, my husband finished his Ph.D. and was offered a job as an education professor as Southern Connecticut State University. We packed up our things and moved across the country to New Haven, Connecticut. I was offered a job at City Hill the very day after we arrived in the state, and I haven't stopped moving yet! I am very excited to work in Naugatuck, and I hope to spend many more successful years here doing what I love!
