CHMS Weekly Snapshot

Message
Each week our students continue with social emotional learning lessons. The emotional climate that we create in our communities and in the groups that we work influence the way that we make decisions. The decisions that we make also contribute to the emotional climate and safety of our communities. In grade eight, our students were engaged in brainstorming situations where decisions and emotional climates contribute to each other.

In seventh grade, students learned about sharing stories with others and recognized this practice as a necessary step in building and sustaining community. Students learned about all the different ways they could tell their stories including narrative writing, imagery, song, dance, blogs, poetry, etc.  Students then began to plan how they could tell their own story.

Around The School
The first trimester is winding down. Our natural inclination is to look at the grades and ensure our children have completed their assignments. At this hectic time of year, I would encourage our students and families to focus on learning rather than on grades.
When supporting your students at home, you may want to ask them about some of the exciting tasks they are engaged in.

Spotlight on Curriculum
Students in grade eight ELA classes are taking a mini break from reader's workshop to engage in a writing unit. The teachers have planned mini lessons on the art of memoir writing. Grade eight students are writing their own memoirs.  Be sure to ask your son or daughter about the memoir writing process.
   Technology

Just a point of clarification, only our in person learners received a case for the chrome book. Our distant learners do not need the case as they are not traveling to and from school with their devices.
